Our Child Jesus Nutrition Center here in the Dominican Republic has become a home and a place of refuge for countless children. At present, the center has 132 children, many of them malnourished and with varied needs. They range in ages as young as 7 months old and as old as 8 years old. They come from families of scarce economic resources and are usually raised by single mothers with many children who do not have a stable job or no job at all.

Our Child Jesus Nutrition Center provides basic necessities, whether it be clothing and food, or medicine and school supplies. The children attend the center from Monday to Friday, 7:45AM-4:00PM. Those from the countryside and further away are brought to and from the location with our own transportation.
Hundreds of children have come through our doors since 1990, and many have returned years later to show their gratitude. What a priceless reward it is when a child, sometimes malnourished and without basic skills, blossoms into a vibrant individual eager to learn and become all that he or she was created to be.
Years ago, we came up with the idea that children would not leave our nutrition center at the age of five, but a little later, because we wanted to ensure their nutrition was more stable. In 2019, we decided to keep the children until the age of 8, and at the same time, we received the necessary approval from the Ministry of Education. So, we worked with both the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education. Every year, we were able to add a class. We can share the joy of seeing the first eight-year-old children graduate this year, having received basic education up to third grade. It was a joy, and at the same time, it was bittersweet for us to see these children leave the Nutrition Center. Some did not want to go to another school because the Nutrition Center had been their home for many years. We are pleased that they can now continue their development.
All of this is only possible because of the generosity of donations and support received by our benefactors, by those who believe in our mission and service and help us to hope against hope.
