The Raio de Sol Center for Education and Childcare was founded in 1998 and is the largest daycare center in the city of Atibaia, covering an area of 2,000 m². Here we look after 238 children, between the ages of two and four, all day long, free of charge. The Daycare Center offers a high-quality service in the Caetetuba Region, where the majority of the city’s needy population is located.
Many children come from the neighboring slum „Favela do lixo“ – „garbage district.“ The parents often have no job and earn a little by collecting and selling paper, cardboard, cans, and other recyclable garbage on the street. Many mothers are single parents. They cannot even feed their families on their small earnings. So they are grateful that the children are well looked after and cared for during the day at the creche.
I thank the Raio de Sol daycare center for being part of my childhood and helping me to be who I am today,“ says Thais Coqueiro, a 22-year-old who trained as a marketing analyst.
Every little help is of great importance for us. It enables us to give the children a happy childhood and help them grow into healthy adults and responsible citizens and agents of change.
